President of the Serbian Association of Employers, Milos Nenezic, represented the Association at the international digital conference of International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions, (AICESIS).
Speakers discussed the challenges of sustainable development in light of the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. They referred to how the international community can respond to the pandemic in a way that will support achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and accelerate progress during the decade of operation and program implementation. Participants also spoke about the measures that need to be taken to address the economic consequences of the corona virus pandemic.
It was stressed that the pandemic additionally highlighted structural weaknesses and a strong need for effective and coordinated structural reforms that will mitigate the impact of the pandemic and accelerate economic recovery. Appropriate Government policy in this sense is key to shaping the economy after the crisis, and the benefits for the economy will be realized by investing further efforts in the fight against corruption, improving the rule of law and strengthening social dialogue.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Program is being implemented in more than 170 countries and territories, including the Republic of Serbia. Four years after the adoption of the United Nations Global Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030, the conference participants called for a decade of more ambitious work and bigger commitment of each of us, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. They announced further steps to be taken in order for the Agenda achievement. Goals and targets will stimulate action over the next ten years in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet.
AICESIS was founded in 1989 in accordance with Dutch law in order to promote social dialogue and exchange views and an example of good practice among members and brings together more than 70 countries from Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Also, at the international level, it has close cooperation with the International Labor Organization and the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The management structure of AIECESIS consists of General Assembly, Board, President and Secretary General.
President of the Serbian Association of Employers Milos Nenezic, was elected a member of the Board at the meeting of this body in October 2019, which once again confirmed the reputation of the Serbian Association of Employers at the international level and the importance of its contribution to strengthening social dialogue.
