Belgrade hosts the Board of AICESIS – The International Association of Economic and Social Councils and similar institutions

On December 1st and 2nd, Belgrade will host the Board of AICESIS – International Association of Economic and Social Councils and similar institutions for the first time.

Serbia, i.e. the Social and Economic Council of the Republic of Serbia, was elected as a full member in 2018, at the session of the General Assembly held in Paris. The President of the Serbian Association of Employers, Mr Miloš Nenezić, was elected as a member of the Board at the 2019 session of this body in Bucharest.

In addition to the meeting of the AICESIS Board, the Conference “For a better future in the world of work and capital” is being held in the Palace of Serbia. Through three panels, the speakers will analyze key topics for the current moment and the future of social dialogue: the topic of social entrepreneurship, the topic of job quality and wage trends, and the topic of the future of work, labor relations, and labor shortages.

“It is a great honor for us as a country to host such an international event.” It shows the importance of the Social and Economic Council (SEC) in the social dialogue, but also obliges us to give more importance to the work of the SEC in the future. This is the only way, in the conversation with all parties, we will go in the direction of what is the goal of every responsible government, which is to move towards a state of welfare. Dialogue is precisely what the state promotes and wants to promote at all levels of government,” said Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, Mr Nikola Selaković.

“It is a great recognition for Serbia to be a full member of AICESIS, and even greater in the fact that we are a member of the Board of this important organization.” The fact that we are the hosts of the Board, which is held once a year at the world level, is a confirmation of the great steps we have taken in more than two decades since there has been a social dialogue in Serbia. Through cooperation with AICESIS and partner organizations, we have the opportunity to adopt the best practices and to improve dialogue, as the only way for sustainable economic development, which respects the interests of all three parties: the Government, representative associations of employers and representative trade unions”, said the President of the Serbian Association of Employers and a member of the Board of AICESIS, Mr Miloš Nenezić, at the opening of the Conference.

AICESIS was founded in 1989 with the aim of promoting social dialogue, exchange of views and examples of good practice of organizations that bring together social partners. The association works in close cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).
