Serbian Association of Employers visits primary schools

Young people encounter professional orientation and direction towards their future career already in elementary school, when they become aware of their abilities. On the other hand, various trends are present and occupations disappear and the new ones are born. Therefore, the concept of lifelong learning, when successfully implemented, contributes to greater adaptability, faster and easier retraining and higher employment rate, especially among young people.

The project „Education for Sustainable Development“ highlighted the need for systemic change – not only in education but also in the way we think about education, work and careers. Likewise, a holistic approach and division of responsibilities between all sectors – education, employment, youth, economy – is necessary.

Bearing in mind the importance of investing in the future and the desire to help young people discover their potential, the Serbian Association of Employers visited the primary schools “Zmaj Jova Jovanović” in Ruma, “Nikola Tesla” in Vinča, “Ivo Lola Ribar” in Ruma and “Radojka Lakić” in Belgrade.

The students of the seventh and eighth grades were involved in discussion, along with the participation of entrepreneurs as representatives of the economy, about the choice of occupation, difference between occupation and career, practical application of theoretical knowledge acquired during schooling and concept of lifelong learning. There was also discussion about critical thinking and much needed caution when it comes to information gathered from the Internet and independent research.

Serbian Association of Employers would like to thank Western Balkans Fund, companies Centar novih tehnologija, Centar Boban, Vina glass and Super glass and visited primary schools for cooperation and support in realisation of visits.
